A narrated snapshot of the beautiful, bountiful blessings of my own life that I simply call pearls shared through the invaluable truths and lessons I've learned through five, yes five, decades of living! Well almost...shy just a few months, but who's counting?!

About Pearls, Perches and Proverbs:

All of us have people, places, and things that we treasure. In my own life, I call these my pearls.

I’ve always loved pearls for as long as I can remember. When I was a little girl, I was first drawn to them because they seemed to illuminate a pure, simple and graceful beauty. In my twenties and thirties, I wore pearls with everything, from the most elegant of evening dresses to my favorite worn out jeans and tee shirt. Then, in a very short time span, my life hit a few rough bumps, followed almost immediately by a couple of brick walls and I lost myself. Like so many things, I packed away my pearls and moved on to the new and foreign task of simply surviving life.

Not too long ago, during an evening of reading, I rediscovered the Parable of the Pearl from scripture (Matthew 13). I thought about how drawn I’ve always been to pearls. Suddenly I was once again drawn back to my adoration of them. I went searching for those I had packed away several years ago and returned them to my jewelry box. I’ve also added a few new pieces to my collection. Almost every day I wear something with a pearl, just to remind me of all my blessed treasures and most of all to remind me how much I am loved and sought after by Him who created me.

I remembered that someone once told me that unlike other gems, pearls are produced by a living organism, an oyster, as the result of an injury. I thought about that. How true it is that in my own life, not just during times of joy, but as much during those moments of pain, sorrow and injury that I have been blessed the most. More remarkable and true is that, in spite of our great insufficiencies, we’re each and everyone the most sought after treasured pearls of Christ.

To me, life is a magnificent kaleidoscope of moments that are made up of images in a rainbow of colors that range from the most brilliant (love and joy) to the darkest (trials and tribulations). Mine has been wonderfully and tragically touched by both. And, it’s from both that I have grown a little stronger, a little more faithful, and a little wiser. Moments such as these - moments filled with people I love and trust; places that embrace the heart of who I am; words that inspire me onward, these are what I treasure most, these are my beautiful pearls. Thus the title: Pearls, Perches and Proverbs.

It is my hope that you and I can get to know one another better as I share with you and you share with me some of the things we as women (and any men who happen here)…singles, wives, mothers, and girl/guy friends… know to be most true about this journey called Life! It’s all about the treasures!
